Our Children's Swim Academy Lessons are all about developing confidence in the water and then good swimming technique. We operate a continuous assessment swimming programme rather than the traditional term based system. This means as soon as a child acquires all the skills required to move up, and there is space in the next level, they can! This also means that there will be no waiting for the current term to end before booking into an available place.
Providing there are spaces available at the required level, you can book at any time!
Starting Swimming Lessons
If your child has celebrated their 4th birthday and has had no previous swimming lessons experience, Level 1 swimming lessons can be booked straight away online: Click here to see all available Level 1 class spaces and to book. Swimmers with more confidence, ability or swimmers that have had previous swimming lessons may need to be assessed at Active Tribe Courtown prior to booking.
Swimmers, either adults or children, do not need to bring anything with them other than their swimming costume/toggs, a swimming hat and we'd always recommend goggles. Swimming hats, swimwear and goggles are all available to purchase at Reception.
If your child has some swimming experience, has started swimming lessons at another facility or already has a good level of water confidence and ability they may be ready to be booked in a higher class than Level 1.
Before booking though, we would always recommend bringing your child for a Swim Assessment with one of our Swimming Instructors to ensure they'll start at the correct level and be grouped with other children of similar ability. Level Descriptions
Level 1 – Talented Tadpoles
The introductory level of the Swim Academy. Level 1 aims to develop water confidence and enjoyment while learning basic swimming pool safety and rules through a fun and playful class in the Learner Pool

Level 2 – Fabulous Frogs
Building on the water confidence acquired in Level 1, Level 2 swimmers begin to learn their swimming strokes to propel themselves though the water and be confident floating

Level 3 – Outstanding Otters
Level 3 swimmers learn to improve their front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke while building confidence and stamina to swim safely in the Main Pool

Level 4 – Super Seals
At this stage swimmers have the confidence and ability to swim at least 10m in the Main Pool on their front and back. Swimmers start to learn about treading water and surface dives to the bottom of the pool and swimming in deeper water

Level 5 – Terrific Turtles
Level 5 swimmers work to improve their techniques and stamina in all strokes and aim to build confidence out of their depth in the Deep End of the Main Pool

Level 6 – Dazzling Dolphins
Building on all their previously acquired techniques swimmers in Level 6 push their stamina while swimming lengths of the 25m Main Pool. At this stage swimmers are confident with all strokes

Level 7 – Sharp Sharks
Competent swimmers with a good ability with all four strokes and good stamina to swim multiple lengths of the Main Pool aiming to fine tune technique in preparation for lane training

Level 8 – Lane Training Tuna, starting September 2026
Advanced swimmers. Level 8 will develop technical skills, endurance and understanding of training and competitive swimming knowledge. Level 8 is not simply about swimming farther; it is about transitioning into trainable athletes.

Active Tribe Courtown Swim Academy Home Portal
Once you have booked your child in to Swim Academy, you will be able to log on to the Active Tribe Courtown Swim Academy Home Portal to view your child's progress, top up their account and view and book available places if your child is ready to move to the next level.
