Magical Woodlands...

Come and explore the trails throughout our 25 hectares of mature woodlands. The woodlands date back to 1870 and were planted as part of the gardens of a Victorian estate. The trails are part of Wexford Walking Trails. They are bounded by the Owenavorragh River to the North, a canal and the dunes to the East and our centre to the South. There are 4 marked trails through the woods:

River Walk (Red Waymarking) - 40 minutes

Canal Walk (Green Waymarking) - 25 minutes

Top Walk (Blue Waymarking) - 35 minutes

High Cross (Brown Waymarking) - 30 minutes

Last weekend I finally visited Courtown Dunes & Glen, and it turned out to be one of those places that quietly stays with you long after you leave. It is not dramatic like cliffs or mountains — but it has something more subtle and calming. From the very first steps, the walk feels almost magical. You move between tall sandy dunes covered in marram grass and suddenly find yourself in deep green woodland with winding paths, wooden bridges and little hidden corners that feel like they belong in a fairy tale. The air smells of sea salt and pine at the same time — a combination that instantly slows your thoughts and breathing. What I loved most is how easy and accessible this walk is. You don’t need hiking boots or special fitness — it is perfect for families, children, dogs or anyone who just wants gentle nature time. We met many locals simply enjoying their Sunday ritual walk. One of the highlights was reaching the open beach after the forest section. The landscape suddenly opens wide — endless sky, soft sand and the sound of waves. It feels like a reward after the quiet intimacy of the glen. ⭐ Helpful Tips for Visitors • 🚗 Arrive early — parking near Courtown Harbour fills quickly, especially on sunny weekends. • 🥾 Wear comfortable walking shoes — paths are mostly easy but sandy in places. • 🌬 Bring a windproof layer even on warm days — the coastal breeze is strong. • 🐕 Great place for dog walking, but keep pets under control near wildlife and nesting areas. • ☕ Plan a coffee or lunch stop in Gorey or Courtown village after the walk — it makes the trip feel complete. • 🌊 If the tide is right, walk back along the beach for a different perspective. • 🌱 Stay on marked paths — the dunes are fragile and affected by erosion

Hands down my favourite walk, but be careful of the river edge. You can easily slip in after heavy rain, and the river is swollen.

Such a lovely quiet place for a walk. There are a couple of loops - shorter/ longer to choose from. It was so peaceful to walk with the sound of birds chirping and the different trees to view. Each loop has a different story. You come across the Ballinatray bridge, the canal, the High cross of Kilbride and the river. Please wear comfortable shoes suited to the wetland soil. There are trails created for walking but its not flat ground. It can get very mucky. I like how they had kept seats near the viewing points, which are good for taking amazing pictures. There are no restrooms at the entry of this walk, so be mindful of that. There are a few car spots at the entry to the woods. We started from Courtown woods Car Park 2. I saw a few people walking their dogs, so I guess it is dog friendly. The entry is free, you dont need to pay anything. Overall, a very nice place.

Great place to have a nice and calm walk with a dog. Gonzo has a ton of sticks everywhere and he loves sniffing the trees. 10/10 from his and our perspective:)

A beautiful piece of woodland, suitable for a leisurely Sunday stroll. Or you can take the rocky beach route. Either way - fully recommended.

Absolutely perfect place to spend time with family,kids,friends!!!There are picnic area,coffee shop,treetop walk,gift shop,Viewing Tower.Friendly for dogs.
